Recently, Toyota announced that the company had surpassed 10 million global hybrid vehicles sales, including hybrid plug-ins, by the end of January 2017. This milestone was achieved a mere nine months after the company broke the 9 million vehicle mark in April of 2016. Closer to home, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) saw the division's cumulative hybrid and plug-in hybrid sales reach a total of over three million vehicles by the end of 2016.
Toyota gauges that using Toyota's hybrid vehicles rather than conventional gasoline-powered vehicles has seen roughly 77 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions and saved around 7.66 billion gallons of gasoline. These results are evidence that hybrid powertrains have become mainstream solutions that help reduce greenhouse gas production, as well as the production of other pollutants. Toyota firmly believes belief that continued adoption of vehicles that are friendlier to the environment will have a positive and significant global impact.
