Earlier this month, the Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC) reported that it's partnering with eight leading North American research institutions on 11 programs that will examine the challenges and opportunities that come with emerging vehicle technologies. These are the initial projects to be launched by CSRC Next, a new program from the Center that promotes safer transitions to future mobility.
CSRC Next was launched this past January with the express purpose of building on the insights gained during the CSRC's first five years. It will allocate $35 million towards safety research into advanced vehicle technologies, including both autonomous and connected systems.
In a press release, Chuck Gulash, Director of CSRC, stated, "Autonomous and connected vehicle technologies are only just beginning to transform the transportation landscape. By working together with world-renowned institutions and making our results public, we are proud to help realize the promise of advanced mobility solutions and a safe, convenient transportation future."
