"Y'know, when I first heard about the Camrys they were gonna order, I was dead set against it," officer Don Cleek drawls. He's been on the force longer, probably, than his new partner has been alive, and he believes in doing things the old fashioned way.

"Police cars are supposed to be rear-wheel drive, V8, and a lot of room, and able to go through ditches."

To the law enforcement officers of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, keeping their city safe is the number one priority. They used to think the way to do that was with bigger, meaner cars. The Toyota Camry Hybrid turned that idea on its head.

"I've had it up to 107mph," says Cleek's partner, Officer Yeagle. "Handled remarkably well."

Cleek admits that, while driving his old Crown Victoria, he struggles to keep up with Yeagle's new Camry Hybrid. The lighter car accelerates fast, and takes corners with ease.

The green police cars have helped the department keep the streets safer, because the higher fuel economy means more patrol miles with fewer stops at the gas station.
