A few months ago, Motor Trend Channel took us on a border to border tour in the Toyota Tundra. This week, Motor Trend is back, four-wheeling though Utah's five national parks in the new Toyota Tacoma.

You'll notice some differences in how these two review shows are set up. When testing the Toyota Tundra, the main goal was reaching off-roading destinations. We watched the Tundra kick up sand, ford river beds, and take on Moab, UT and the "Hell's Revenge" rock crawl trail.

This review of the Tacoma focuses more on the vehicle's prowess over rough roads, and the outdoor activities you can enjoy in a 4x4, like mountain biking and camping.

In other words, off-roading was the journey, not the destination.

This may represent a fundamental difference in the nature of the two trucks. The Tacoma is nimble, and offers superb handling, but the Tundra has more power under the hood.

Despite forsaking "Hell's Revenge" for the less steep "Devil's Crack" when the Tacoma visited Moab, UT, it still showed that is has plenty of fun to offer.

Using its locking rear differential, the Tacoma TRD Off-Road had no problem surmounting a slippery rock crawl, carefully straddling a wheel-eating crevasse.
